It should add the file to your list of downloads. Now you have to wait.
Your client will find sources that are sharing the file and get a place in each source client's queue. If you expand the list to show the sources (try double clicking the file in the list of downloads), you will see your position (QR: number). This QR: number will slowly reduce until you get your turn to download.
You'll get a little bit from one source, a little bit from another (with bouts of waiting periods

) but eventually your file will get completed.
Look for a quick start guide on the website of your client. They have a support forum (all good clients do) and all your questions are probably in the FAQ.

That's correct.
emule service is a slow service. You need patience.
The help pages of aMule are very good:

and iv never understood why some people complain about the speeds.
I am a regular on WinMX, and I know many users there that hate eMule and wouldn’t touch it for the reason of slow speeds.
These are the same people that also complain that they cant find rare movies on WinMX and other P2P sites (not inc eMule).
All I pay for extremely rare special titles is the price of my internet connection.
If I have to wait a few weeks or months, so be it.
There's no pleasing some people.
Sorry I went OT.
