I may have to report something.
I have always loved VLC, but I think it might be the cause of my loss of system sounds and loss of audio watching DVD's as well as being unable to hear audio when watching streaming media.
I don’t remember any of the above trouble before I ran VLC on this new PC, and funny enough I also have no capability of listening to streamed media since installing VLC on my work pc.
When I have time I will uninstall VLC and reinstall my audio drivers and see if that works.
The reason I haven’t tried this yet is because VLC is still very valuable to me for watching and playing all downloaded media content, of which I have no trouble with at all!

Tip: Uninstall the previous version through the control panel, then delete the videolan folder in program files before installing the new version. That works for me.
On my system, the new version and plugin are working beautifully, especially when previewing partially downloaded videos. The jumps over the parts that have not been downloaded yet are very smooth, and the annoying popup asking you to fix broken files has also been done away with.
