Re: [REL] Icecream (2006) [short]
Hi sodepetahi
Since I got this new computer iv been unable to get any sound when watching streams from many sites including youtube.
My old system had no trouble with the sound on these sites, and yet iv reinstalled all the codecs I used on my old system.
Im wondering what codec is required, because I obviously cant play the clips through Gspot to find out.
Thanks

Hi Debaser the streaming vids on Youtube use FLV format (Flash video) have you got FFDshow installed?
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video ... fdshow.cfm I don't know if it has been discussed here but you can save the vids on Youtube etc using
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php or http://keepvid.com/

Re: [REL] Icecream (2006) [short]
Thanks for the suggestions.
The codecs you suggested didnt make any differance, and I even tried the codec pack recommended on Youtube and metacafe etc.
Yes I have been making sure I dont have codec conflicts.
Its so damb annoying, I can play saved videos with the most obscure file extentions but I cant get sound from any sites playing streaming vids.
I even reinstalled zonealarm pro, thinking it may have been blocking something vital that is required for sound.
Keepvid is great BTW
Im just gonna have to learn to lip read
Oh yeah, iv got the adobe macromedia thingy as well.

Have you tried klite?

Re: [REL] Icecream (2006) [short]
thanks for the suggestions, im up to my waist in codecs, and im getting confused and a little frustrated.
Iv reinstalled the same codecs that were on my old PC that played the clips with sound without any trouble, thats what really bugs me.
So do I just carry on installing codec packs then? even though I have them already.
Problem with some of these packs is, they have multible codecs that may already exist on your computer, not to mention all the strange gubbins that no one even knows about but still install anyway.
All I want is that one codec that plays youtube content, as im already up to the hilt in codec packs.
Youtube really piss me off, iv sent loads of emails asking which codec is required but they never reply.
Surely there is a website that says, this is the codec to hear youtube vids.

Re: [REL] Icecream (2006) [short]
To be honest all I have on mine is Xvid mpeg 4 and FFDshow, I also have Adobe flash and Windows media player 11 and i don't have a problem with sound. My board is an MSI so it comes with onboard sound which I think uses AC97 drivers - MSI have their own updates. I know you've checked for conflicts, have you tried downloading a Youtube file and then playing it? If it doesn't work then it might be the FLV format. You can convert FLV files to other formats, whether they would work then for you I don't know and doesn't really solve your problem

Re: [REL] Icecream (2006) [short]
The least amount of codecs you can use the better. FFDShow is recommended as is the MP codec. There is an article (I think on afterdawn but not sure) which SHOWS that codec packs can be very bad idea, they can contain outdated codecs, and also auto install codecs which can screw your system.
Please downlaod this little tool and it will TELL you what codecs you have, and what are required to play individual files :-
http://www.free-codecs.com/Sherlock_The ... wnload.htm
Also if you go to codecs.com this tells you how to get individual codecs.
Remember that bad codecs constitute a high proportion of calls to Microsoft about system problems - if you are going to install, create a recovery point first so you can roll back, and ALWAYS test access to your system via recovery console - you never know when you may need it (I have recovery console pre installed so appears on boot menu). Above assumes you are running XP.
