Is there anything we can do, to make sure this doesn't happen again.

It gave me a fright to see that this wasn't here. This is one of my if not my favorite site, i don't know what I would have done without it.

The message "bandwidth exceeded" seemed clear to me to make it temporary, or else I would have messaged people here via eMule (I did message ghost to make sure that's all it seemed to be).

I looked up the webhosting plan offered by the company FLM uses and saw the limit was monthly with no apparent way to buy more, so after the first day I didn't bother checking much until June 1.

In general the logs need to be monitored more often now that we know we can go over the bandwidth cap... I have seen other boards temporarily eliminate avatars, flash, etc midmonth if their bandwidth is tight.
