Identical nicknames on eMule

Post by abel »   0 likes

Few instants ago looking at my upload I have noticed that somebody named abel downloads something from my shared files. I am a bit confused and concerned, how it is possible, I believed that the chosen nickname in eMule is unique, like when one creates an e-mail account. Apparently it is not the case, ok, but I am afraid of any kind of confusion. Is it possible to distinguish two people having identical nick on eMule?

That should be the least of your worries. This nick cloning is harmless, albeit a tad irritating. There are ed2k clients out there which have this 'feature' in which they show every user they are connected to the same nick and client software that the other user is having. Why? I don't know. Does it benefit them? I don't think so.

Two of the well known client software that have this 'feature' are the applejuice and morphxt mods. However, in both these mods there is a setting that can be used to disable this 'feature', and all sensible people, including our own ghost, have disabled it. :thumbsup

You will not believe how many emulers I have seen in my queues. :wall

I am a user of and have been a big proponent of MorphXT... MorphXT does NOT have a feature which allows nick cloning.

I have lately had a user who clones my name, using an Israeli mod whoch promotes this. The reason that such mods clone the nick is to take advantage of the fact that communities favor their members: if a user puts [FLM] in their name then often others here give it preference. The idea is that is if I am a member of [FLM] and expect a boost from others, I will boost anyone with [FLM] in their name, even though it's a clone of me.

Highly annoying but... when it comes down to it... not worth getting myself in an uproar over. The thing is, the nick thief who I have often seen is probably a member here and I almost certainly would have given him a friend slot anyway. Since he is a nick thief I haven't and he is worse off.

My mistake, FLL. I could have sworn I've seen some MorphXT clients using my nick, but maybe I was seeing things, or maybe they were spoofing the client software name as well. :bigups I'll take your word for it. :)

I like the MorphXT MOD myself - not for the GUI (can't beat eMule Plus for that) but for the import options which can be used to recover dead downloads from other protocols, eg. a direct download link that died on you, or even a partial torrent with no seeds - which, btw., is a notoriously hard thing to do. :clap :thumbsup
