Censorship is a nonsense nowadays: everyone can see what he wants with internet or buying a DVD and remove the movie from cinemas has no sense. It is also a limitation of personal freedom: if I want to see the movie they have no rights to say no.
Re: AMC Theatre Chain pulls Hounddog from it's 5,117 cinemas
Still will get to see it but more then likely have to wait for DVD.
Re: AMC Theatre Chain pulls Hounddog from it's 5,117 cinemas
A sensationalist and somewhat misleading headline. Hounddog was never going to play all those 5000 AMC theaters, not even blockbusters play every venue in a chain, and this is a small Indie movie.
And the movie wasn't even in full release yet: playing this week in only 20 or so places nationwide, not scheduled for full release for another week. Unfortunately some of those limited release theaters are AMC... but the web still shows them as showing Hounddog, so either the web is slow to update or AMC isn't actually pulling the movie, just not rolling it out to more places. Hopefully some other chain, not just Indie houses, will pick this up.
One point which should not be lost concerning the "censorship": if the reviews had been all positive, rather than lukewarm, and therefore lots of people were going to pay to see the movie, AMC would have almost certainly not have done this. The prospect that this film won't be a hit is key: why alienate any customers if you aren't going to make money? Other controversial pictures (e.g. The Last Temptation of Christ) had people picketing in front of theaters but were still playing because they were hits and noone cared much if the fringe right boycotted.
While we will undoubtedly still get to see the movie on DVD, this may have the effect of making financing of controversial pictures tougher to get in the future, as full distribution is not assured.

Probably a publicity stunt. Controversy sells.
Now more people will watch the damn movie just to see what all the fuss was about.

That so freakin' ticks me off!!!!!!!! I am all for flippin' 'Family Values', but obviously THIS is not a movie to take the freakin' kids to watch!! It's for adults!! As adults WE make up our minds... GEEZE, forget it.......
Thanks for the heads up, quickone, but....

I'm not enjoy to see such scene. Of course, it's role playing, Dakota was not raped for real but it's hard to me to see such scene. So not big problem to me.
If they leave panties scene and short dress, I'm happy man.
Of course this ugly censorship need to be spanked. Anyway I'm pretty sure the scene doesn't show full of things. These americans know how to make a tease with a bullshit. If it was an italian movie from seventies, well, you'ld expect some weird moments. But here...
Maybe a director cut will be available in DVD.

I found the rape scene in Bastard Out Of California very disturbing and difficult to watch. But that is what good cinema is all about.
I still haven't seen some of the more harrowing movies posted here. My point is, I want to be able to choose what I watch and don't watch. I don't want someone else deciding for me.
