This new three-part series explores one of the most significant turning points in a child's life - the transition from primary to secondary school.

Each film focuses on a different part of Britain and a contrasting type of school - a girls' boarding school in England, the Scottish high school that is the only option for children raised in the remote islands of North West Scotland, and an inner-city London comprehensive.

Shot over eight months, the films take an affectionate look at how children change as they start facing adulthood for the first time. Only children are interviewed and their honest, positive and touching insights build a bigger portrait of children on the cusp of adolescence in Britain today.

This week's opener follows four 11-year-old girls as they leave the familiarity of their prep schools to join the prestigious Cheltenham Ladies' College.

Part of the Modern Childhood season. A look at the move from Primary to Secondary school from a child's view. Shot over an eight-month period, this film follows Bryony, Galen, Jessica and Ruairidh as they leave their tiny primary schools (some with less than 10 pupils), as well as their families on the islands to prepare to start at Mallaig High School, on the remote North West coast of Scotland.

In the last of the series, we follow four London children as they make the transition from their familiar primary schools to the grown-up world of Islington Arts and Media School, a big inner-city comprehensive.
Best friends Demian and Azad will be making the move from the relatively small Parkwood Primary in Finsbury Park,while Semra and Katriye are twin sisters at Daubeny Primary in Hackney
