Asking for reshares, etc ...

I hope I'm not being greedy asking for reshares. I've been lurking for awhile, and only have very limited experience with eMule and ed2k, generally. I know I need to make the request on the specific movie thread (I'll do that), but there really are MANY films here I'd like for my collection that I don't have. It appears that almost everything I do have has already been posted here at some point. I guess what I'm really hoping for is a bit of newbie advice on how best to make such requests, and how best for me to CONTRIBUTE here, as well.

Thanks folks! :)

P.S. Would it be appropriate for me to post a list of what I do have? I'd happily release anything of mine that members here might request.

Hi Hieronymus

Best advice is to bump the releasethreads that you request a reshare of... Don't make too many at a time. If you have any movies that is not released here, make a post asking if any want it. For movies already released, keep a few of them available in a shared folder so you can be a "trickle source" on them. It' s always new people going after the old releases... After some months of less activity from my side i reshared my folders with dutch, german, danish, swedish and french FLM-related movies... 2 out of 5 slots are always busy serving people with these old releases..

Making reshare requests is never a problem, but give eMule a chance to find the sources first. On your recent German reshare request there are at least 4 full sources & another very nearly complete. Safari Sisters show complete sources for two episodes........I'm sure the others can be reshared if necessary as this was a very popular series.
Your helping share is a good enough way to contribute......members who do so are the back-bone of the community. I would suggest identifying yourself with your eMule username.......this will make it easy for others to give you a friend slot.
.......& welcome to the forum!

I keep all the Safari Sisters episodes and extras shared, along with many of the "favorites", and like lb, there are always people waiting in line for them. eMule is not an instant-gratification system, but it's one of (and maybe the only) source for the really rare ones. You can't go to NetFlix for most of this stuff.

If none of the sources has release priority, it may still take weeks or even months to download. Bumping usually helps -- firstly, somebody who shares the file may notice and set it to release priority. Secondly, another member may realize that he also needs the file, and more people downloading helps everyone to get the file faster. If the movie is brought to attention of other members, it might be that someone can even offer a better rip than the ones already posted.

Hmm, as far as I know, I am sharing all of them 24/7...

I think we need to be careful about reshare requests on releases that quite clearly have complete sources. This is not a DVD store & it is not realistic for new members to request a reshare on everything they fancy, simply to speed up the download process. We've all waited weeks, months & sometimes years for something to complete.......arguably the wait makes it more worthwhile when it eventually completes.

I don't mind bumping if people bump movies that I need myself ;)

Usually bumping does speed up download (even if there are complete sources already), because several people try to download at the same time (looks like whatever movie is bumped, there are always people, even regulars, who need it). And it shows that there is interest in those movies. If movies like "Ikke Naken" or "High Season" were not bumped, I would have never thought that anybody wanted my DVD rip.

Thanks for all the good info, folks. :)

I managed to get "Du und Icke und Berlin," "Trocadéro Bleu Citron," and 1 ep of "Safari Sisters" before my system decided to take a dump (I have all on share status, now). Of course I lost all the incomplete files of a few others I was attempting to get. :eusa_doh

As for the other vids I acquired prior to starting on ed2k, most of them were via torrent downloads, but I've since changed and simplified the file names. I'm not sure which of them would match up with previously released files linked here on the forum, in order for me to properly share them. What would you suggest?

When you share a file on eMule, it calculates a hash value - it's part of the link that you click on to download. Even if you've renamed the file, the hash still calculates the same, so if someone requests a file that's already been shared before and your system has a file that the hash matches, they can start downloading from you.
