........messed around with IMDB.
I dare say there are plenty of valid reasons for a makeover, but being a creature of habit I'm not impressed. It might be more 'visually' appealing but as an outright reference facility this is nothing like as good. Fortunately it hasn't affected the imdb2leech script running although the info is now buried where it's difficult to see.

Strange ...........it's now back to exactly as it used to be!
I'm not at home for the next few days & on a different PC so I can't even check whether I altered something by mistake in the display properties, but it was radically different.

I did some poking around on IMDB. Col Needham, one of the founders in 1990, who still runs the site today, wrote (my emphasis bolded):

We are listening to the complaints though; some changes are already in the pipeline and I've described the option of a new pure research page to address this long-term. Anyone who doesn't like the new design now can opt-out of it via the preferences described in the redesign FAQ. The new design is only being shown to 10% of users so we can gather this sort of feedback and react.

So the reason it comes and goes is likely it thinks you are a new user and decides which version to show you.

It appears they decided by looking at how often the links in the left column were clicked, that the casual user (i.e. most of the site's users) completely ignored them and this was a major focus of the redesign. They only did the main page so far, but will be doing more after they evaluate the feedback.

I would say that the new design sucks hard, and the site seems to be no longer fully functional without javascript

I agree it bites big time, and they're not finished messing with it. Chances are it will get worse, not better.

IMO the most annoying feature is the translation of movie titles based on user's IP. For example, most FLM members won't find "Fucking Åmål" in the list:

Haven't found a way to turn off this feature. Maybe IMDB members can do that, but I don't want to register as a member
