Hi Folks,

Well I have been a little quiet over the last year, not a very good year for me personally, professionally.
And my friggin computers caused me a lot of grief as well.

My work took me above the arctic circle for about a month, (-55 degree temperatures).
I have just come back and I am glad that that is done and I will not have to do it again.

I just have some new computer problems, probably due to me being a little greedy with my downloads.
I have lost the display on my laptop today (hopefully I can fix it or I will have to buy a new one).

Once I have these problems worked out I have some new movies that I bought, that I believe will be welcome at FLM.

So be patient and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems but it's good you're back. Most laptops have an external video port so if you have a spare monitor lying around you can often use that until you get around to having the laptop screen replaced (ouch! that's expensive unless it's under warranty). It may not be the screen, though. It's often the power inverter that drives the screen, and that's on the motherboard. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement and the idea about the monitor.

What is perplexing to me is I can see the screen behind a black thing, I press control and F something that has the screen on it.

It comes up for a few seconds and then no black again, even when I start up it's normal then I get a black screen. As I said I cansee the screen faintly in the background.

I tell you computers, get my piss when they don't work the way I want them to.




Again when I have things fixed I will upload a couple of finds that I think people may like

Uh-oh, that sounds like the power inverter instead of the screen if it works sometimes but not others. If it still has some warranty left, no problem. If not, you may be able to buy an identical broken laptop on eBay for cheap and swap parts.

Hi All

A few changes since the last time I talked to you all, the screen on my laptop is pooched but I can still access it with a monitor. So that's okay for now
(this is where I do most of my downloading from (wireless)).

I ended up buying a new desktop, it has 4GBs of RAM and 1TB of space which is great, but now my internet provider is changing things where you pay for use instead of paying for a lump sum of uploading and downloading. I get 60 GBs a month for $50 and now it will be double or triple that shortly (hence why I use wireless to download). In Canada internet access is expensive and only going to get worse as we are forced to use the internet more for every day use.

So as I may have said I have had a very shitty year. My boss told me that he would do everything he could to get rid of me which has affected my work (and has made me a miserable shit at times). At this point I have no idea what slight he has perceived me giving him. I have been waiting for my summer responsibilities and it looked like that dick was going to get his way.

Well I will going away for the summer and transferring to a different location, so that tool will not be my boss. Lucky for me because I make a large part of my wage during the summer.

Because of all the pettiness and bickering at work I come on to FLM and find the same so I am hesitant to participate because of this. Also I think I may end up being to much of an ass to some of the people causing the problems. I love this place and I love the material that is posted here. I would never get it anywhere else or even become aware of it if it wasn't for FLM.

I know the Admin are working to weed out these tools and to get them to play ball or get rid of them. Which is great and I applaud them for doing so. Maybe I am naive but I like the simplicity of this site, where we talk about movies and share them with like minded people. But the tone has gotten a little bit nasty lately and people are a little easy to offend. Because of that has happened to me this year I know I am a little extra sensitive to all of this and it has put me off of participating this year.

I am hoping that when I go away for the summer I will be able to get in a better frame of mind and be much more useful participant to FLM, and be able do the work to get some of the titles that I have and make them available to all.

I have 2 weeks before I go and I am almost at my limit for the month already. I will hang on for as long as I can.

Looks like I will have to get a new laptop this summer any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Again when your in a shitty frame of mind it is hard to get into the things that you love like this place. I am looking forward to the summer and trying to recharge and get rid of the negatives and move to a more positive frame of mind.

If I don't talk to you guys I hope you a fun and safe Summer, enjoy the sun and weather. Have a couple of drinks for me, cause I am certainly going to have a couple of drinks for you guys.

you just said a bunch and by the looks of it you have a lot weighing heavy on your mind. all will be better soon hopefully. I won't tackle much about what you said because I am afraid it will provoke others here to bring up their stuff as well.

as for a new laptop you must think carefully about what you intend to use it for exactly. if you want to do a lot of heavy video or gaming your choices are limited unless you have a high budget. if this is not your concern than there are a lot of options currently. let us know your budget and intent of use.

I'm really sorry to hear of your work troubles, hope they slide into better pathways soon. The only sure thing is that things change, they never stay the same.

There has been a little more testiness than before in some of the FLM threads - I'm guilty too - but I think things will work out OK. Don't stay away because of that, just savor the good and ignore the not-so-good.

I've been impressed by Dell's reliability. I support over 500 Dell computers, from desktops in offices to laptops in State Trooper cars that take a real beating. The failure rate has been very low and those are usually old machines. My experience with Dell Support may be different from the public because I'm a tech but I've never had a problem getting repairs done (though I can count on any call to them lasting at least 30 minutes ). I wouldn't have qualms about buying a laptop from Dell myself. Still, I recommend to anyone not to get a laptop unless you really need one because they cost more, they can't be expanded much, and repairs cost more too. If you do get a laptop, get the extended warranty.

If you do leave us for awhile, come back soon. Your summer location may give more opportunity than you think. At least drop in once in awhile and say "hey!"

Since I don't play games, I just download, burn and watch movies, pictures and music.

Something with a good WIFI, a good amount of RAM and Storage

I am looking to spend in the region of $700.00

any ideas?
