Direct download: [Code] Not quite an Iranian film: while it takes place in Iran, it was filmed in Jordan with expatriate Iranians. In Farsi (Persian) with internal optional English subtitles, although the external subtitles I have provided are better.

My understanding is that it is impossible in Iranian-made film to realistically depict women unscarved in their own homes. Just as in public they must have their heads covered, in film they must also. Iranian actresses working outside the country don't have this restriction, so this not-really-Iranian film does not either. There is a scene in the film where the mother accidentally goes outside without head covering and she gets in trouble with the police. She gets off easy (no flogging), and "only" has to deal with the threat of the malevolent Djinn.

There are Iranian filmmakers with more liberal political views who are unenthusiastic about this kind of societal and filming restriction, and reason that if they can not depict females realistically they will avoid depicting them at all, except as minor background characters. So ... boy movies.

I am surprised and intrigued about the number of Iranian films actually here at FLM and will have to check them out, if I ever finish downloading the extraordinary number of new and upgraded releases that showed up this weekend. (Wow!)
