[REL] The New Swiss Family Robinson (1998)

I have not had a chance to watch this yet. It's a hard to find film with Jamie Renée Smith but I don't know how much screen time she gets. If you know and love her, this is for you. If not, might be boring.

I have seen the cartoon of the Robinson family, Flone is the only girl in the family and also a central character, I would expect the movie to have that same concept.

When Angelino Jack Robinson gets a new job in Australia, he decides to take his wife Anna, sons Shane and Todd, and daughter Elisabeth 'Lizzy' by sailing yacht from Hong Kong to Sydney. The gun he gets, thrown in by Sheldon Blake, proves disabled, and for a sinister reason: near Borneo, Blake's men turn up to capture them. The family escapes but loses the yacht on a reef. They build a cool camp on an island. But the pirates keep coming back, and the boys discover why: he hid a treasure in the yacht. Shane is also discovered and captured in more than one way by French plane-wreck survivor Françoise, who later teams up with the family.

Watched this today, she has a lot more screen time than I expected. Honestly its not a bad movie. This was filmed about the same time as dante's peak, so anyone who loved dante's peak will probably like this as well.

A bit FLM Off-Topic but I just got this from the IMDb Trivia section
This film made national news as the trained jaguar took a bite out of one of the people on the set. The next week the same jaguar attacked a stunt person. The jaguar was retired.
Jaguars are dangerous

"Retired", is that the euphemism they use now?

I like this from Wikipedia:
The jaguar's powerful bite allows it to pierce the carapaces of turtles and tortoises, and to employ an unusual killing method: it bites directly through the skull of mammalian prey between the ears to deliver a fatal blow to the brain.
The only jaguars used in movies should be the cars, because they are ACTUALLY able to be handled by people.
Spoiler:

But daaaaaaamn I always wanted to take a bite out of Jane Seymour.

I think someone grew up with an image of her in a certain James Bond film. ;)
