The Calm Beyond (2020)

(imdb lists the 'Country of Origin' as Hong Kong, hence I put it in the 'China [REQ] forum... )

Synopsis:

A young woman lives, hidden in plain sight in a ruined Hong Kong building after a tsunami destroyed the city - A castaway on a concrete island. Her concealed existence is changed forever when a small child literally floats into her life.

Unfortunately this is Samantha Sarissa Sarinna Boggs (oddly, a VERY UN-Asian sounding name.. ) only film to date...

She's a cutie..

It takes her about 10 - 15 mins to hit the screen, but after that she's a pivotal part of the plot.

Another oddity about this film is it's pretty much in English though it takes place in a post-apocalyptic Hong Kong (devastated by a Tsunami). There's many scene's where characters speak Chinese, but you can figure out the context pretty easily due to what's going on in the scene. Regardless, most character's revert back to English. Subs are available and would probably enhance certain said scenes, but I watched it without them and didn't feel confused or that I missed something..

Great movie, (despite some crummy reviews [DON'T READ THEM!!]), and well worth a watch, imo!!

I'll give it a go, as I tend to like disaster and post-apocalyptic movies -- including those that get crummy reviews. I may read those reviews anyway, because my opinions are not fragile.

Hong Kong movies before 1997 could reasonably be in Unlisted [Hong Kong] because putting them in United Kingdom seems rather odd; but for movies released beginning in July 1997, listing a Hong Kong movie as "China" is simply a legal and political reality. But I digress ...
