Her mother, bedridden and nearing death, cannot bring herself to offer Skye the support she needs. Her grandmother is unable to acknowledge the little girl's suffering. The child, feeling isolated and confused, clings to the memories of being driven around to sleep as she tries to make sense of what even adults find confounding.
