[REL] Megan Is Missing (2011)

Why Megan Is Missing is missing here ? I just discovered it and this film I assure you can only be watched once (like Requiem For A Dream). It just goes to show that with a ridiculous budget, a director can blow your mind... A mesmerizing film, the last 25 minutes are a proof for the nerves.

Synopsis :
Spoiler:

Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13, though opposites in personality, are best friends. Megan carries the front of being the most popular girl in school, but this masks a lifestyle of hard partying, drugs, alcohol and indiscriminate sex. Amy, unpopular and socially awkward, clings to her relationship with Megan as a lifeline to social acceptance. Together, these two young girls forge a deep friendship based on their mutual needs. The two girls regularly communicate by web chat cameras or cell phone, and even meet boys online. As Megan seeks friends who are different from her usual posse of hanger-ons, she is introduced by a friend online to a 17 year-old boy named Josh in a chat room. Megan and Josh bond quickly, leaving Amy feeling a bit left out. One day, Megan goes to meet Josh in person, and she is never seen again. Amy launches into a concentrated effort to find her friend. As the media swirls around the story of Megan's disappearance, Amy discovers the horrifying truth about what happened to her friend.

I couldn't find a better version than this version with French subtitles embedded in it. But I trust you to find better ;) .

Some members might be concerned about the AGES of the actresses. They are older than their characters, but NOT as old as might be thought from the film release date. Before anyone says otherwise, I call this film ON-TOPIC. It probably is too extreme in its horror for many to be interested regardless. There is no obligation to watch it!

First, the characters:
Megan Stewart, 14, and her best friend Amy Herman, 13
The IMDB bio for actress Rachel Quinn (birth date unknown) says
Her first professional acting experience was in 2006 when she was cast as the ill-fated teenager Megan Stewart in acclaimed cinematographer Michael Goi's controversial directorial debut Megan Is Missing (2011). Filmed over the course of a week, the film wasn't released until May 2011.
So the actresses were 5 years YOUNGER than would be expected from the movie release date.

IMDB also says:
Trivia
In order to be fully aware of their participation in the movie and graphic content, the parents of the young cast were asked to be on set during shooting.
So clearly the actresses were minors not adults, including Rachel Quinn.

For the actress playing Amy Herman, IMDB says:
Amber Perkins was born on 10 April 1989
So during filming in 2006 she was 16 or 17.

One of the IMDB reviewers says "But 22 year old actresses just don't (can't) look 13." Well, the actresses were apparently NOT 22 when it was filmed, they were a reasonable 16-17. Whether they are believable as 13-14, I leave entirely up to interested viewers. If they were actually 22 I would say NO, but 16-17 is close enough in my mind for the characters. Still, this is fair warning for those looking for younger actresses.

Thank you Dave for bringing this for fans of "found footage horror".

I'll keep it short: Again 14 or 13yo girls look like at least 16 (at least to me).

Thanks anyway, Dave.

I saw this years ago and totally agree that it's one of the better 'Found Footage' films out there. I never brought it to FLM as I read the same review Night saw stating 'they didn't look 22', and I accepted that the reviewer had done his due-diligence and KNEW that '22' was their ages AT THE TIME OF FILMING. Thank you Night for digging [ :o ] a little deeper to bring us 'da FACTS'! :P

Although the girls DO look older than the 12/13 YO's they are portraying, knowing they were on the outer cusp of FLM-age makes this movie worthy of being here: It is a harrowing look at the dangerous position that young girl's stupid naivete [and hormones] can put them in when they get caught up in romantic interludes online...

In this case [for the most part] the 'Found Footage' aspect of the film adds to the realistic grittiness of this movie.

Thank you Dave, for bringing this movie to our attention! :thumbsup (And 'Thank You' Snake for posting the eD2k link! TEAMWORK!! YAY! ) :bigups
