A music-driven documentary about a deaf gypsy girl falling in love with Bollywood.

10 year old Denisa is an outcast in many ways. She is an illegal citizen of a gypsy camp in Poland, a woman in a patriarchal gypsy community and most of all - she doesn't speak as no one has ever diagnosed her with severe hearing disabilities. She lives in a world of her own, full of rhythm and dance, imitating the glamorous women from the Bollywood DVDs she found in a nearby garbage. Dancing she can be anyone she wants, even a queen, and express what she can't say - joy, sadness and fear.

The Bollywood musical fantasy sequences are clearly staged and much different than the documentary portions that make up the bulk of the movie. Therefore, some movie sites call this "docu fiction" rather than documentary. It uses the same idea of "poetic, ecstatic truth" that Werner Herzog explored in his own documentaries.

This documentary was released this week on several sites. YTS was one of them.

I saw it while scrolling through YTS looking for something interesting and saw a girl standing on her head. It looked familiar and I wondered if it was already here at FLM. I only found Rich's post, so maybe that is why I recognized having heard of it. As szijarto indicated, I was certain that if it had made it to YTS then it was certainly at other sites too. I just did not look. I downloaded what I found and ACTUALLY WATCHED IT.
