Featuring heartbreaking interviews with more than a dozen young survivors, as well as chilling footage shot by the hostage-takers themselves, Children of Beslan explores the devastating impact of violent conflict on children. Through the words of those left orphaned and bereft of family and friends, details of the 57-hour siege emerge, from the confusing first moments, when pupils heard noises they thought were balloons popping, to the numbing hours and days in the overheated gymnasium, to the devastating final hours, when bombs taped to walls and suspended from ceilings went off, and hundreds of panicked hostages, bullets flying around them, began scrambling over the bodies of victims in search of safety. Ranging in age from six to 12, the kids recount the events that robbed them of their family, friends and innocence - describing experiences that are chillingly familiar.

Children Of Beslan, produced and directed by Ewa Ewart and Leslie Woodhead, was first broadcast on 30 August 2005 on BBC Two at 2100BST, then televised in the US later that year.

I'll second that!! :onfire (Although personally; I still think that the Russian Govt. could have worked out a better strategy that might have ended the conflict with less bloodshed; but what do I know... :think )

Thanks so much for this link, Debaser; I hope this film treated the survivors and the memories of the departed with the dignity they deserve!

kev.

lol, was in a bad mood that day :onfire after those that dictate the progress of peace in the Middle East, finally bring peace to their conclusion, perhaps Chechnya will fall into line also :)

I totally agree with Rich and kev. I feel that this was the closest the Chechen race came to annihilation. Putin could easily have killed every single Chechen national and silenced the rest of the world with one question:
Do you think the people (Chechens) who died were more innocent or less innocent than the children who died in Beslan?

And don't forget that small children were made to go without water in the sweltering heat. The Russian forces might have done their job more effectively, but waiting any longer was out of the question - the children (at least the younger ones) would all have died of dehydration anyway.

Sorry for the rant. At least on this topic I'll be in a bad mood forever.
