The film tells the story of Sophie – an 11yo girl, that of the vacations cottage in the Tiroler mountains pulled out is, and of Bataa – a Neanderthal boy who was freed by a meteorite out of the eternal ice. Jointly exist both unusual adventures and experience an entirely special friendship. In the middle of the fascinating mountain wilderness of the high Alps, in Innsbruck and in Vienna Wolfgang Murnberger produces this original story over the power of the understanding and the riddle of the eternity as a large movie theater of the pictures and feelings

I rent the DVD and found it pretty boring.
But that's just my personal opinion.

This one's new to me. I would have thought it was at least a little exciting though - a Neanderthal boy revived by a meteor strike on a glacier. I mean, there should be at least a few amusing scenes of him freaking out over a flashlight, or trying to kill the demonic car by stabbing it in the tires with his hunting spear, that sort of stuff. And maybe showing the main girl a few things about Neanderthal mating rituals.

Seems like it would almost take effort to turn this concept into a boring film. Oh well.

You mean a 1980s teen comedy? (Well, I am *told* we were really primitive...)

More like a cross between Ronja Rövardotter (1984) and Un indien dans la ville (1994), with the two young leads living in the woods together for a while learning to communicate, and him teaching her basic survival skills. A skinnydipping scene or two. And of course a few comic relief scenes with the boy reacting to modern stuff. I'd also do an intense emotional scene when the kid finally realized where he was, what had happened to him, what that meant for his old life and his people.

They should've let me direct this one. It wouldn't have been boring.

Would you be willing to direct a gender swap version with the savage primitive being the girl? I like savage girls...

Thank you for the "Un indien dans la ville" reminder, which I am downloading now. I figured that if I survived Tim Allen and actually enjoyed "Jungle 2 Jungle" then I should see the original!

As is usually the case when American studios remake a French original, Mon père, ce héros (1991) to My Father the Hero (1994) for example, the original is better. 13 yo Leelee is always worth appreciating but overall Un indien dans la ville was the better of the two imo.

I could go for the gender swapped version. A boy who normally has no luck with the opposite sex meeting this girl from the past with very few inhibitions. Definite possibilities there ... ;)

Agreed! I downoaded and then watched it right away. To be fair, the American remake is very faithful to the original. Perhaps it is more slapstick, because of the presence of Tim Allen and Martin Short.

The American version of "My Father" might have been better if they used an alternate casting choice for the father... Once with Depardieu was enough. Tom Hanks, yeah. Tom Hanks. I would like to see him in that role. That would have been real proof of his acting ability, not that junk he got Oscars for.
