In the near future, writer Victor Banev (Gregory Gladiy, soulful) gets himself on a UN commission to investigate what's going on in the remote town of Tashlinsk, where reports tell of a virus-created race of brainiac mutants, the "ugly swans" of the title. Banev's tweenie daughter Ira (Rimma Sarkisian, creepy) is enrolled at a school for gifted children there that the mutants have taken over, and are teaching the kids, now able to levitate and yak about philosophy, to despise ordinary humanity.

This is kind of a creepy sci-fi flick that fans of the genre may like. I got a "Bladerunner" feeling from it with the constant rain, flooded cities, and bleak outlook. It's the future and drastic climate change has caused the rise of the "wetters" - or maybe they caused the climate change. Don't expect to see much of the children until the last half of the film. Their deadpan faces and too-adult demeanors were effective, especially Rimma Sarkisyan (she IS creepy ). Not a lot of "action" - more cerebral - but I liked it.
