Raising a teenage daughter in Manhattan, New York can be a scary proposition. For a single father in a mid-life crisis things are outright dicey. Hank has kept his private life away from his teenage daughter, Constance, who lives mainly with her mother. When Constance's mother leaves the country for a while she moves in with her father and they are in for a surprise. Constance is a beautiful mass of crazy contradictions, with eating habits careening between starvation and gorging. With her long, thin legs twisting like straws she tells dirty jokes and develops boy crushes almost daily. Hank, a successful war and news photographer, has kept his work out of sight to protect his daughter just as he has kept his occasional girlfriend a secret as well. As their worlds collide, amidst cosmic mood swings, the two rediscover their father-daughter relationship only to realize that they like each other as much as they are alike.

Is the character she plays younger? Does she look/act younger? IOW is this even marginally on-topic?

i don't know what age the character is meant to be,she just seems to be a typical american midteen, she plays the part well but in my opinion this belongs in the offtopic section,it's why we have it,other opinions are welcome.

Usually I would be the one who says something. Glad to see the perspective is changing for the better. :D

I have not seen this movie to be able to say much towards if it belongs in the regular [REL] or not. When I see an older girl playing a younger one I go off the context of the movie. Towelhead comes to mind where an older girl successfully plays a 13yo.
If she looks way older than 16 it is an easy call to say off-topic. But in this case she could be young enough. So I would decide on these questions. If someone said the character was 19 in this would you have any doubt? Does her peers fit the context of being younger or is it all adults around her? The storyline does it make you feel she is under 16 or could she easily be someone older?

I haven't watched this film either so I have to go by the opinions of others, and starfish's certainly carries a lot of weight. There are quite a few other films on FLM where the actress is older than 16 but carries it off because she acts her character's age, and others where the actress is younger than 16 but acts much older (Traci Lords?!?). If this girl plays a believable 16, I'm inclined to leave this film here, especially since her true age has been revealed - people can decide on their own whether they want to download it or not. If she acts more adult than teen, I'll "put her in her place".

Keep here or move?

I'm ok with it staying,at least now anyone reading this post will be forewarned.
Phuzzy! shame on you using the legendary Traci lords as an example, :D

i don't know about you Ptg,but I absolutely loved Towelhead, she was very convincing, when you say you go 'off the context' i take it you mean 'by the context'

8-)

That is why I brought up towelhead. I had no idea she was older until it was pointed out to me here. She was extremely convincing as a 13yo.. Many of the films I point out that are off-topic they could have easily said the actor was older and no one would have doubted it. Such is why I brought up Tracy Lords in the past. No one at all questioned whether she was under 18 because no thought she was. Someone could say an actress is 15 doesn't mean her character is or comes across as such. This is a site focused on childhood/children, coming of age involving children and first love of children. The point is the film has to have some focus being that of someone who plays a character that is convincingly 16 years of age or younger. Films that are focused on nothing of the sort are off topic.

I know she's the extreme, but she didn't act like anything but an adult. It's a fine line and a personal opinion call. It'd be silly to throw out a good film just because the actress playing a younger character finished it on her 17th birthday and we had an inflexible hard-assed "rule" that disqualified it from being on-topic.
