A father, in pre-World War I France, is torn between his sense of honor and his deep love for his saintly daughter when she gets in trouble with the wealthy son of a shopkeeper.
By cutting across the fields to go and bring lunch to her father, Patricia met Jacques. She was eighteen years, he was twenty-six. She is pretty, with fine manners, a young lady. Patricia expects a child of this meeting. The rich boy's parents, the Mazels, will cry blackmail. Patricia and her father, the well digger, have only the joy of welcoming the child. The story centers around Patricia who, at 18, is the oldest of six daughters who her father is raising by himself after their mother died.
<edit> These and the Spanish subs exactly match lara's release. The Google translation is pretty dodgy but at least you can get the gist of what's being spoken in this very wordy drama.
Just finished watching this. Nice film, very watchable. We might have a cut version, though - there are several places where there might originally have been nude scenes. Maybe they decided to appeal to a wider audience.
However, the younger ones have very little screen time and significance. Should this be moved to 'verified off topic'?

I just re-watched this and I have to agree that it's a nice film but it should be in Verified Off-Topic. Thanks for pointing this out, emuler. The children have very very minor roles. I don't know about nude scenes but they wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
