33-year-old Berik is blind and deformed by the radiation in the area around the city of Semey, Kazakhstan and lives in a small apartment in an apartment block. He spends his days alone at home and has only his music to keep up with the company. Eleven year old Adil, the youngest and least popular boy of the children in the apartment block, turn up at Berik's and an unusual friendship and a great understanding develops between the two outsiders.
