ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome AND aMule
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
Thank you for this information. Would this affect ALL chromium-based browsers (Vivaldi, Edge, Opera, Brave etc) or just those who choose to do what Chrome does?

To some degree it affects everything, because most plugins are made for Chrome even if they are installed on other browsers like Firefox.Night457 wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:40 am Would this affect ALL chromium-based browsers (Vivaldi, Edge, Opera, Brave etc) or just those who choose to do what Chrome does?
Brave posted this statement
https://brave.com/blog/brave-shields-manifest-v3/
The short is that Brave implements ad blocking in the browser, not through a plugin. So it wont be impacted.
I haven't used Opera in many years, but I found this recent post
https://blogs.opera.com/news/2024/10/op ... -blocking/
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
I switched to Brave last weekend. As DS said: It comes along with its own ad blocker and it works perfectly.
I really like this browser. Besides, I don't wanna give my data to Google anymore.
BTW: There is hack for extending the lifetime of manifest2 in Google Chrome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFEPjDBEy7o

Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
Turned out that Chrome 130 changed URL parsing and no longer accepts certain characters in URLs, especially '|', so as a workaround we now render ed2k links as "ed2k://%7Cfile%7C..." instead of "ed2k://|file|...".
This is ugly and when you post a link, you must use the traditional syntax "ed2k://|file|...", so copypasting links with %7C is not possible. AFAICS, it is not even possible to paste links with %7C into the eMule program using the Tools menu. But apparently this is the best solution for now.
I'm not convinced that Firefox is significantly more privacy respecting. I just used Firefox to visit some web pages and it connected the following domains repeatedly:goku33 wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:44 am Also im surprised so many flm users are using chrome and not Firefox which can be more privacy respecting
aus5.mozilla.org
contile.services.mozilla.com
firefox.settings.services.mozilla.com
incoming.telemetry.mozilla.org
location.services.mozilla.com
normandy.cdn.mozilla.net
push.services.mozilla.com
services.addons.mozilla.org
shavar.services.mozilla.com
Maybe Firefox does respect the privacy, but they also use Google services anyway.
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
Oh I know. But unlike chrome we can disable those automatic connections simply with changes in about:config or just use a custom user.js file or even addons like PrivacySettings.mimzy wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:15 pm I'm not convinced that Firefox is significantly more privacy respecting. After all, tor Browser and Mullvad Browser both rely on Firefox as well. Mullvad Browser is basically tor browser without tor and takes it seriously to not make connections to tracking servers of Mozilla etc
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
I've done that, but it was a lot of work and I still couldn't disable everything.goku33 wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:19 pm Oh I know. But unlike chrome we can disable those automatic connections simply with changes in about:config or just use a custom user.js file
Of course Firefox can be modified to be more "privacy respecting", but Chromium is also open source.goku33 wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:19 pm After all, tor Browser and Mullvad Browser both rely on Firefox as well. Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
I just now verified that for myself. I only rarely have copy-pasted ed2k links, yet I have recommended it when others were having problems. I hope that eventually we can resume this capability, somehow.mimzy wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:15 pmit is not even possible to paste links with %7C into the eMule program using the Tools menu. Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
There is certain probability that the issue will be fixed in the next Chrome version. See related issue: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/373928202Night457 wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:24 pm I only rarely have copy-pasted ed2k links, yet I have recommended it when others were having problems. If not, we can add a "Copy link" button that copies the link in correct format.
A workaround is to paste links into a text editor and replace "%7C" by "|".
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome
Is there any way to try and read the comments there more than 4 lines at a time?
Thank you for the summary, I will trust what you say.
Your "Copy Link" button sounds like a possibility if Chrome does not clean up their mess.
I am certainly NOT going to suggest that option to someone who is already struggling to try to get eMule to work for them.A workaround is to paste links into a text editor and replace "%7C" by "|".
Re: ed2k link no longer work in Google Chrome AND aMule
Damn... I wonder me because all links who I copy and paste give me an error in aMule and now I read this topic here and follow the tip with changing %7C to | and yep, it works.
I hope there would be another solution availalable for the fix, because I need to copy & paste the links in Mac OS for aMule (simple click will not open aMule under Mac OS) and this solution is so anoying.
The only "good thing" who I recognized now... I can now select "Copy link" in Safari. This option was not available before. But the problem is the same.
