I just figured out how to view/rip my old NTSC tapes. On one of the tapes I have this movie with English subs. Does anybody want?

(I also have French DVD without subs if needed.)

Yes, post both. Ideally, someone can rip the subs from the tape so the DVD version can play with soft subs.

i love the way you make that sound so easy,i've never heard of a successful sub rip of a tape.

I've done it before. I know it's not easy. What I mean is that should be the ultimate goal but there doesn't have to be a deadline.

I have tried using subrip's feature to rip hardcoded subs several times. Never been successful. It's based greatly on the picture quality, the color and contrast and stability of the subs, if the picture tracking isn't 100% consistent or the subs don't consistently stand out forget it. I think for this reason a digital TVRip might have a chance but VHS probably not.

The harder option is to sit there and play the movie until you see a sub, hit pause, and enter that sub and its timing into Subtitle Workshop. Repeat hundreds of times. Very time consuming. Takes a lot of time but in the end very satisfying to complete it. e.g. Arvacska (Nobody's Daughter) which I did this way. (By the way, if anyone here understands Hungarian, there is still one scene which is unsubbed because it was in the DVDRip but cut from the TVRip I had).

Anyway, I think it's definitely worth a subbed VHSRip of this film even if it doesn't go as far as making external subs.

OK, here's VHS rip with English subs. Unfortunately the quality is not perfect; in particular the subs look slightly fuzzy and are probably not easily rippable. I'll try to find a VCR with native NTSC output for digitizing my tapes.

Wow, this DVD costs 300 € at amazon.fr :eyecrazy

I'm glad I bought the "Martha Martha" / "Y'aura" combi-DVD when it was still available at regular price :dance

Here's upgraded DVD rip:
