9 teen(ish) boys, 3 teen girls, 3 preteen boys, and a puppy. Typical childish humor and the sort of difficulties you would expect on an isolated island. There are frequent sentimental or upbeat musical interludes. The children find their successes through hard work, cooperation and positive action.
The villains include a sadistic exploitative capitalist couple back home and vicious long-haired hippie American sailors who plan to sell the children into slavery. There is a sympathetic and helpful African American character, but he is rather stereotyped. As North Korea was and is ethnically homogeneous, inevitably he is played by a Korean man in blackface. Contains a few scenes of enthusiastic animal slaughter. The video quality is very grubby, as can be seen from the screencaps. Overall I enjoyed it, although I believe I have honestly represented the elements that may concern some.
