Set in a small village in 1960s' France, this film follows an individual named Paul at approximately eleven and eighteen years of age. Preteen vignettes include (1) his sexual awakening, (2) adventures with the cub-scouts, (3) putting his paralyzed dog to sleep and (4) being involved with a car theft. Adolescent vignettes include (1) losing his virginity, (2) getting dumped by his girlfriend, (3) failing school and (4) experimenting with homosexuality. A small portion of the movie places Paul at about five years old and has him interacting with a female peer.
