There are subtitles in several languages that already exist, including English:

Some of those subtitles are maybe even professional translations made by humans speaking human language.

SubtitleEdit or other free subtitle software can be used to sync a subtitle that does not fit the file you have.

Trans is absolutely correct that the sync of the subtitle depends on having the exact video file too.

After World War II, a small French village struggles to put the war behind as the controlling Communist Party tries to flush out Petain loyalists. The local bar owner, a simple man who likes to write poetry, who only wants to be left alone to do his job, becomes a target for Communist harassment as they try and locate a particular loyalist, and he pushes back.
Unfortunately the child content of this film seems to be very limited. Following the plot is likely a must in order to get value out of it. Fortunately there are good subtitles available for those who do not understand French. The first video version I downloaded from eMule was 1080p, and the only English subtitle file I downloaded was already synced to it! I was very disappointed that I was not given any challenge. ;)
