What the heck is going on with that super narrow aspect ratio?????

...the choice of the director and cinematographer to shoot the film in an extremely wide 2.76:1 aspect ratio, narrowing the frame by a huge degree.

I measured my laptop screen with a ruler and rather than 2.76:1, I got 3.78:1.

Mere opinion:

Spoiler: That is insane. Even "How the West Was Won" in Cinerama was only 2.89:1 ! I admit that the screenshots did not even register on me and that I grabbed it based on the plot. I would be interested in what exactly the original camera aspect ratio was. Assuming shot-on-digital, I do not know what the lens options are for digital cameras and how much was accomplished by cropping. Considering the actual topic of the movie I think it a shame that this visual choice will probably serve more as a gimmicky distraction. I guess this just proves how conservative my aesthetic sense has become.

The movie is good, but this black frame on the top and bottom, I am not very pleasant to watch, horror, in VLS player I could not expand this video

VLC > Video > Crop > 2.35:1 will expand it left and right.
VLC > Video > Aspect Ratio > 1:1 will expand it as much as possible top-to-bottom but the image will be distorted. I myself will not accept the distortion from doing that but maybe some people will prefer it.
I am not complaining about DreamScape's share but honestly I think this must be watched on as large a screen as possible with the full width in a person's left-to-right visual range in order to get a good view of the full height top-to-bottom. Watching it on my laptop just won't work!

I suggest a re-encode upscale cropping 300-400 pixels off the left and right to make smaller bars. Take it from 3.5:1 to 2.5:1 or something "wide" - still with black bars - just smaller ones! alternatively just re-encode it in handbrake with no scaling and crop the left and right until you get 720p - then your TV should upscale it to 1080p/4k. It'll be what i will do.
