Ho Ho Ho2: A Family Lottery is a Christmas movie about Ema (Patricia Poslusnic), a child who still believes that dreams can come true. Ema lives in an orphanage run by Ioana (Andreea Marin Banica), a bitter woman who doesn't like children. One day, while the girl is playing in the orphanage's courtyard with her friends, she finds a lottery ticket. The good news is that she won the jackpot but unfortunately only an adult can claim the prize and the deadline expires in one week. Since she can't trust anybody, Ema decides to escape from the orphanage, find the ideal family to adopt her and cash out the cheque. Her friends and Vlad (Dragos Bucur), a police officer, help her with this adventure. This is when Ema realizes the true meaning of family and friendship.

I created these subtitles about 6 months ago with Whisper AI and technical support from jpf.

Neither me, jpf, nor the AI understand a word of Romanian

By using large v2 and v3 models repeatedly with and without audio manipulations, I think the end result is about as good as it can get without a speaker. Instead of including random guesses, I left the lines blank where I couldn't derive anything reasonable. Most are not noticeable, but there are 2 or 3 that kinda annoy me.

An amusing challenge is that one of the boys tells tall tales. One of his stories, Whisper came up with about five completely different stories. Fortunately, there is a scene later in the film that gave me the hint to pick the correct one.

I did NOT use Whisper for the songs. Some had published English translations, but the main theme was translated using the official Romanian lyrics with ChatGPT.

Your information about the struggles with AI translation I find absolutely facinating. This is more evidence for my suspicion / contention that if AI does not know the answer to something, instead of admitting "I do not know" it will generate complete fiction with brazen self-confidence. Some people are the same way, so this is not solely a computer issue. Maybe the answer to correcting AI hallucinations is to teach computers humility?

Yes. The most amusing incident was when I asked ChatGPT to translate Russian subtitles but my program wasn't able to read the cyrillic text encoding. It ended up feeding the AI a bunch of unreadable symbols. Nonetheless, the AI invented a translation from literally nothing.

I never used Whipser with Romanian, but it seems that this language is difficult to handle for it.

BTW: Where is the 1080i version? You only shared the 720p?
