Do I need to cancel a request?

Post by DreamScape »   0 likes

I clicked the "request selected files" unnecessarily by mistake. Do I need to do something to cancel it so no one wastes their time?

I checked the list at /forums/app.php/ed2k/list and I don't see the file I accidentally requested. Was the system smart enough to see that it was already being shared?

Moderators and Admins can remove items from the Requested files page. If you accidentally requested a file, you can PM me and I will remove it. If it is not on the page, then somehow you must have removed it yourself! (I thought I knew a way to do that but after testing I found it does not work.) EDIT: See mimzy's post below for the way to do this yourself!

The system / forum has no access to whether or not a file is shared. Everything on the list is done manually and depends on individual members. If an ed2k link appears next to a file, that means that the post was either created or Liked by the member who is logged in to the Requested files page. If that person clicks the ed2k link on the Requested file page and the message "You already have the file..." appears in their eMule client, that means they are currently sharing it. They can then Check Mark the box to the left of the file and then click Share / Go at the bottom of the page. The Check Marks already there mean that someone has at least CLAIMED they are sharing it and this depends entirely on member honesty. ;) Of course anyone can reshare files to help even if they are already checked! All items stay there for a certain amount of time whether they are checked or not. (Two weeks, I think? A month? I don't remember.) EDIT: See mimzy's post below.

The request should be cleared if you clear the checkbox and click "Request selected files" again. Sorry about this being implemented in a non-obvious way. You have a standing request if the box is checked.

Oldest requests are also cleared if you have more than 20 standing requests or if the requests are older than 2 weeks. Those parameters are configurable by admins.

It is possible that a file is requested by multiple users. It is removed from the list when no users have standing requests.

Thank you mimzy for clarifying the details that I could not remember.

This is what I thought from having done it before but I SWEAR it was not working for me this morning when I tried. Of course it works just fine for me now. Probably not having coffee yet then had something to do with it. :gmorning

Good to know. I made sometimes a wrong request to, but never think to PM the Admins or try to remove it, because I see no button the remove the request.
