The "@" here really only indicates in a shorthand form who a post is mostly aimed at. If the person making the post wants the target of the message to get a notification, they should use "Reply with quote". Most Members probably leave their Settings at the default value of getting notifications when they are quoted.

In my post here, I quoted the post by E9A7F3bD but deleted the quoted contents to avoid taking up lots of space. E9A7F3bD should get a notification.

Something that might work also but I have never tried:
1) Tap the Quote Text icon in the post editor. You should get this: [Code] 2) Edit that with =member, like this: [Code] 3) It should appear in the post like this:

Now my question for ghost is, did you get a notification for this post?

EDIT: Darnit! I just realized I am derailing a movie thread again!
EDIT EDIT: I have moved this post out of a movie thread, and into this thread created by E9A7F3bD.

I know quote reply could do this, but people forget or don't want to do it.

Considering the universality of the usage of "@username" in the internet, perhaps supporting this feature will bring a lot of convenience in post.

Sorry I've been making new suggestions in this section, someone has to come up with and document these details of the UI/UX.

If people do not WANT to do something they do not have to! ;)
I have already said plenty in other threads about people like me who forget things. :think ' ' '

I will take your word for it that this is commonly used for automatic notification purposes; I just do not do enough social media to know one way or another! It seems like a sensible suggestion to me.

But know this: I will never type out YOUR user name! 8-)

No, don't apologize! You have been posting in exactly the right section. I do not know what suggestions can or will be implemented, but thank you for starting the conversation.

I also wouldn't type your name, I just copied them if I have to.
Avoid any situation where I mention the wrong person.

Agreed, it is easier to copy-paste to make sure it is correct. (Although copy-pasting a name is "work" in itself, beyond the mere typing of a simple name like ghost.) Yet E9A7F3bD seems like a name chosen to be difficult for other people to remember and type! It may have some secret meaning for you but I do not think anyone could guess it. I have assumed that you use a password manager to login to all your sites.

I have long regretted my own completely random and meaningless use of 457 in my Member name. This is a remnant of using any number of sites that demand a username and login for registration, and my having to quickly come up with something that has not been used before. 95% of those sites I never went back to more than a few times, so the name did not matter. How would I know that I would keep coming back here?

Compared to copy and paste, more optimized scenarios should be able to automatically type the entire "@username" content through one click.

There are two main reasons for choosing a random name:
- First, I don’t want to be remembered, I want communication to be based on content rather than identity.
- Secondly, reject network tracking and association, just using various different names.

Thanks for answering, Night.

And yes, I did get a notification.

We really should keep away all this technical stuff from the movie threads.

Since that really means ME most of the time, I have to agree!

I have to credit E9A7F3bD with creating a number of technical discussion threads exactly where they should be, rather than drowning the movie threads with such discussions like I often end up doing. E9A7F3bD created this thread, and I moved your post and my initial post into it to (belatedly) keep all of the discussion in the right place.

Just to double-check:

You get notification with
[Code] ?

It is not necessary to use:
[Code] ?

Yes I got the notification WITHOUT you using my user_id. Did you get a notification for my post here? I only used your username and not your user_id.
