I think it is necessary to exist a thread alone instead of disrupting the original movie thread too many.Night457 wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 12:50 pmI am dismayed that both of you feel so unappreciated. I have seen what you have posted and that is NOT how I feel about your contributions! I have downloaded at least some of the files, and I have learned to expect something of quality when I see that either of you have a new post. I do not download absolutely everything, because: (1) I often have multiple versions of a movie already that have not been watched, and (2) right now I am once again running out of hard drive space, and (3) I have lost the time to download and compare files to figure out what is best and what I want to keep. I keep everything and run out of space.
Certainly some Releases will look like VHS, but sometimes that is the best that is available anyway. People can take what is available or ignore the movie entirely. I TAKE THE VHS. If it looks like a VHS, then that is motivation to find something better. At least they have the "VHS" to watch and find out if they like the movie. I remember very well the VHS era: many of the movies I first watched on VHS are still among my very favorite movies. Did I somehow enjoy those movies any LESS than I do watching them on 4k UHD? Of course not, that is absurd. There are so many movies that I have purchased on VHS + multiple DVDs + multiple BluRays + 4k UHD. Ultimately I have tried selling off duplicates to make breathing space, and I got rid of the once-watched 4k versions because I could get more money for them AND my viewing them had NOT increased my pleasure. I probably had the most joy from the first DVD, so I might as well keep THAT version for the sake of nostalgia. There are some movies that I only watch on VHS because that version has a different edit. (Actually I watch a downloaded rip because I foolishly discarded the last CRT TV I had that my VCRs would properly play back on. Even a component-to-HDMI adapter was not working to get playback with more modern TVs. So for the rarer VHS tapes I hunted down rips online.)
I am sorry I have not responded to your more recent posts but I have a long habit of posting and posting and posting, many times with very long messages. I am absolutely certain that many of my own posts are not read at all because they are too long, but only links are clicked.Lately I have had less time available and I thought it was a good opportunity for me to KEEP QUIET for once. Everyone has to devote time to "real life" too, not just "reel life". Right now I am worn out without the time or energy to devote enthusiasm to my enthusiasms. I am not mentally capable of writing positive messages, so I say nothing.
E9's supportive advice is spot on. People share because they want to, and they will not necessarily get anyone saying anything. Most people who are pleased with what they find here do not post any response. If they did, the threads would be overwhelmed with responses that say pretty much nothing beyond "thank you". There are movie-sharing sites that discourage or explicitly BAN that sort of post.
Skalman, I looked through your posts and noticed that you deleted some links that I KNOW I downloaded, and some of them I watched and KNOW were terrific! Please don't delete the links. You are under no obligation to keep sharing files forever. When you are done with it, you are done. That post should remain as a record of the file. When someone wants it in the future and it is no longer being shared on eMule, they can request a reshare and anyone can reshare it. ALL THE TIME I reshare files that came from Members who have not been here in YEARS.
E9, I confess that your technical knowledge FAR EXCEEDS MY OWN and that eventually I found many of your posts overwhelming. I simply could no longer say anything intelligent in response, so I said nothing. The FLM staff who can actually implement your suggestions is very small, and they may find that they prefer dealing with those issues when they have the time available rather than spending too much time talking about it. For godsakes you are certainly NOT hated! You present your case with such detail that there is not much more to SAY. Any changes will eventually get done, or they will not. You did your part by bringing up the issue!
See what I did now? Another damn long post where I just will not shut up.Both of you, please keep up your contributions. I have fielded private messages from other people who felt unappreciated so you are definitely NOT alone. I had to reassure them that was NOT the case at all because I knew that *I* at least was very pleased with their movies. There are plenty of reasons that most people just remain quiet and it has nothing to do with hostility or indifference. You made your concerns public, so I addressed them publicly in this here movie thread.
Cheers!
The first and most important point I want to say here is.
Being ignored and being unappreciated are completely different things.
They have very large differences in psychological expectations.
