Jdownloader2 Variant quality

Post by Moonee »   1 likes

So I downloaded a movie earlier through Jdownloader2 and a bunch of Full HD options shows.. Which one would like be the best version? I've always just went with the top option but I don't even know if that would be the best version

Also, another thing

1080p is Full HD
2160p is 4k

What is 1440p?

Gemini has this to say from google
Gemini wrote: H.264 is the legacy standard (fast, compatible, less efficient); VP9 (Google's free option) offers much better compression than H.264 for web streaming (like YouTube); AV1 (newer, royalty-free by AOMedia) is the current leader in efficiency, providing superior compression (up to 30% better than VP9, 50% over H.264) for 4K/8K streaming but demands significantly more encoding power. The choice depends on balancing compatibility (H.264), good free performance (VP9), or cutting-edge efficiency (AV1) for modern streaming.

Opus is a royalty-free, open-source codec ideal for real-time applications like VoIP due to its low latency and high efficiency at lower bitrates. AAC is a patented codec, more widely supported on consumer hardware, and generally excels in high-quality music streaming and storage at higher bitrates. Opus offers superior quality for speech and lower bitrates, while AAC is still considered a better option for high-bitrate music due to its compatibility and performance.
I don't think you use p2p, but h264 and AAC would be preferred. Though you could argue they are slow to adopt newer codecs.

No, I don't use p2p (Unless you count eMule)

Thanks I'll stick to the top option (h264)

AV1 or VP9 give the same quality in a smaller package, as does H265. They do not work on all equipment so they might not work on old computers. I watch my movies with a hard drive hooked up to my BluRay player, and it does not play Opus audio. So I download a different option or recode it. Several years back there was some discussion here about the benefits of sharing H265 files, because many people could not play them. But as more people upgrade their computer equipment, more people can play files with the newer codecs. (H264 is from 2003; H265 from 2013; AV1 from 2018.) There is no reason to stay with the old codecs FOREVER but if you share files you probably want them usable by most people. As DreamScape posted, H264 and AAC are "safest" as the most widely used. It is probably good to identify/name files or give specifications so that people know the files are H265 or 4k or Opus audio so that people do not waste time downloading it if they can not play it.

eMule is P2P (Peer-to-peer sharing), as is torrenting.

1440p is QHD (Quad High Def) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1440p
