During the summer of 1936, the outbreak of war took many Catalan middle-class families by surprise while they were on vacation. In a village near Barcelona, several families who were friends decided to stay in their summer homes until the war ended, which turned into an unexpected and long vacation for the children. Quique, the oldest boy in the gang, opens himself up to the world of love and has his first experience with Encarna, the maid, while barely paying attention to the love that Alicia, one of the girls, feels for him.
