A Waltz Through the Hills (1988)
When Australian children Sammy Dean and her older brother Andy are suddenly orphaned, they fear that they will be separated and placed in foster homes. So they set off on foot, hoping to reach a ship that will take them to Britain and their only surviving relatives. The two young runaways must make their journey through some of the world's harshest terrain - the wilds of the Australian outback.

Looks interesting enough. $4.00 cheaper at CD Universe:

Almost sounds like a TV version of a cross between 'Walkabout' and 'A Far Off Place'[or any of those 'children lost in the wilderness' movies...]. :think

kev.

This is a children's movie, and it occasionally shows, but it also tackles adult topics such as racism, nationalism, and politics as the major themes while still featuring a lot of adventure. The acting is uneven: a couple of the adult actors are horrible, most are excellent. The kids do an adequate job, Sammy is very cute even though the weepy "are we there yet Andy?" lines the script calls for are sometimes a bit much. I liked this movie and recommend it.

My rip. This was a very tricky one, the R1 DVD had almost two minutes of company logos at the start which I wanted to cut but the first VOB was encoded at a different bitrate causing the audio to desync, took a while to figure out an acceptable though not perfect solution. Enjoy!

By the way, the synopsis Rich had is accurate:
When Australian children Sammy Dean and her older brother Andy are suddenly orphaned, they fear that they will be separated and placed in foster homes. So they set off on foot, hoping to reach a ship that will take them to Britain and their only surviving relatives. The two young runaways must make their journey through some of the world's harshest terrain - the wilds of the Australian outback.
The synopsis IMDB has at the moment is ridiculously wrong:
Two Australian orphans stow away on a ship bound for England-and their only surviving relatives.

I'll trust your judgment & recommendation. I'm also partial to movies from down-under.
Thanks FLL :)

Received the file.
It seems to be something a la Walkabout.
