Somewhere in France during the Middle Ages. Beatrice (Julie Delpy) is impatient to see her father (Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) return from English captivity. She doesn't expect however that the father whom she loves from distance will be the most hateful person who will submit her and her family to abuse and humiliation.

I checked, double-checked, and triple checked. This film does not seem to have ever been posted here. RFF doesn't have a listing for it either. Perhaps it is because at first glance, if you take the year for this movie (1987) and subtract Julie Delpy's birth year (1969) you get 18. However a simple deeper investigation reveals that she was cast for this movie at 16, and filming began soon after. Her birthday is December 21, so she must have been no older than 17 during filming. In any case, she plays and looks the part of a young girl.

This movie is one of my all time favorites. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you get this movie.

Just a quick note.

Being that this is a childhood related forum, that could be one reason this was never released.
That’s not to say that many movies here do star girls 17 or even older.

This is just a quick warning because certain members might complain.

Personally speaking, my limit for submissions is normally 16, exceptions being when the title is extremely rare and or very sort after; and even then the said characters/character must have an "interesting role!, and playing the part of a child/early teen even if she is not in real life.

Just something to think about when releasing.

This is a fabulous French director who has other on-topic releases. I believe there was some discrepency over the age of the actress and she may have been 15 at time. In any case this is an excellent film. Thanks.

I do agree with DB that 16 is usually my limit for OT releases.

A film of this caliber usually takes a while to film, so her exact age may be hard to determine. However the theme of the movie is quite on topic. If it makes everyone happier, there are also two other younger characters (siblings?) that appear in the movie several times.

I have felt the brunt of a couple of complaints regarding age in the past, and it sucks.
Id hate you to also experience that, especially while you are making a big effort with your releases!!

There appears to be a HD version on amazon now in the US region! $5 to rent. $10 to buy! Does say HD version.
Can anyone capture get it? The previous DVD release was a very old DVD and pretty low quality for a DVD.

Like Terry said. That site we know lists her as 17 probably comparing age + release date. But Wiki says she was born 21 December 1969 (10 days before year end). Film released some time in 1987. So max 17 and a half if a summer release. Given it's a big production with locations, it could have been filmed up to a year before it's release. So I agree, she was probably 16. Filming dates would be needed to be sure. Still - I want this film - she's a teen. She's not a 20+ playing 16.

Filming began on March 27, 1987, so she was 17.
