Off By Heart BBC2 - 22 May 2009

Off By Heart follows primary school children from across the country as they take part in a national poetry recitation competition - the first of its kind. More than 1500 schools signed up to take part, and the film follows 12 finalists who progress from regional heats to a grand final.
Compered by Jeremy Paxman, the final took place in front of 600 people at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford where the children faced a judging panel that included Philip Pullman, Benjamin Zephaniah and Dawn Postans, Head of Examinations at LAMDA. From the 1500 schools who originally signed up, the 12 finalists have already achieved something amazing by getting this far, but who will be crowned the eventual winner?
I recognise many of the poems from when I was a kid but it has to be said they put on a far better performance than I ever did!
Some real cuties here reciting their poems, especially the little Asian girl.........

Obviously the screenshots are biased (as they always are :) ) & the boys get their turn but there is a significant girl content.
I'm bowled over by the confidence of these kids & the way they present themselves & I actually enjoy poetry.........some future serious talent here!
