That YouTube channel features transfers of rare 16 mm films, and that is what unrestored vintage 16 mm looks like. But you are basically right, because the films there seem to be recorded DIRECTLY from a screen projection. If someone had an old print and watched it projected in a small theater (such as in their home) that is what it would look like. Fortunately jezevex's version looks much better than that, because it is a "proper" transfer. The colors are somewhat faded, but it seems to be what might be found from an official streaming site. EDIT 2: Oh, jezevex's file came from ghost, and that may have come from filmarkivet.no. I guess I might not have been far off.
