Thanks for the upgrade, popdrome! This one looks like it'll be a classic.

It is also on AmazonVideo although I assume it’s only SD Quality (but sometimes SD Amazon WEB-DL‘s can be much superior to old DVD-R‘s - again this is why I always like the source in file/release names so I can keep track and compare and immediately know which sources I already checked, downloaded, compared). But I also already had old cartoons whose old XviD TVRips looked better (colors) than the Amazon versions.

On Microsoft Store there is a SD Version and it even says file size: 1.2 GB

Same for MagentaTV, SD+Stereo Audio: https://web.magentatv.de/film/wse/GN_MV008044190000

Yes, it isn't available in HD. :(

I made my own upscale from the German DVD about one year ago. It has only German audio, if you don't mind:

I forgot about this film, I remember seeing some screen captures on a photo sharing site a few years ago, she's definitely cute , it's nice to be able to see this at last, thanks for sharing.

Weren’t you satisfied with the AI upscale (of the polish dvd) previously shared in this thread? :D

@deadman and I were just talking & wondering about whether the German DVD has better image than the polish one. I was just in the process of downloading the German DVD, which I now don’t really need to anymore. Thanks!

I did the upscale before popdrome's release.

But no, I am not satisfied. :( Maybe I'll do it again. :think

Yes here is one.

Don't be put of by the resolution of 1532x888. It's the largest screen rez I could decently get. Aspect ratio is intact.

Bandyta (1997).[HEVC-mk2.aliptes].mp4

enjoy!
Encoding it to only 1.1gb for something nearly 1080p doesn't do it justice for me - I can see blocking and pixelated edges in almost every scene. When films are older and natually more grainy you need to allow at least 50% more data to the video. Sometimes 100% more. That's why clean films like Toy Story can look good at 1.5gb - but other grainy films like Hud need 4-6gb. I know H265 is supposed to allow you to get away with a file size 30% smaller than mp4 - but this is too heavily compressed for me, it's a shame because the source looks really high quality :(

Further to the above I will show a few examples from random scenes. Here, where A is square blocks of the same colour and B is "pixelated edges" (looks like sand or dust) - often seen in over-compressed jpg's and videos:
It's probably ok for people with limited bandwidth who just want to watch it to see the film - but not in the interest of preserving the quality of "film". If you're watching it from a long distance, or a phone or tablet it's fine. But for me the shimmering edges are distracting, and easily solved by giving it more data.

A 100% crop of another scene - those tiles have extra lines around them - all compression artifacts

This ladies neck and face is just squares:

If this was 2gb it wouldn't have the above blocking. The original film detail would be there.
