Jonas and Ines are in love and want to spend their vacation together camping on the Baltic coast. But Ines’s narrow-minded parents intervene and insist that the young couple joins the family vacation. Problems arise, so everyone ends up traveling to the Bulgarian Black Sea on their own. Along the way, Jonas meets a beautiful Dutch girl who is going to India via Turkey …

This behind-the-iron-curtain road movie stars the gorgeous Kareen Schröter (most likely 16 during filming). You may remember her from Sieben Sommersprossen, her debut film posted here: https://www.first-loves.com/forums/view ... f=14&t=241.

I really like Kareen! She has a girl next door beauty - and if she was the least bit bashful showing off that beauty, she hid it well. I couldn't find English subtitles although there are several sets in German here if anyone wants to take a crack at translating them:

It's too bad she didn't have a longer movie career. Only four credits on IMDb. :(

Here are direct links for those who prefer that method or can't use eMule for whatever reason. All I ask is that if you're able to use eMule, please unrar to your shared folder and seed this for a while. Every source helps. You can still burn an .iso file to disc while it's being shared. It won't interfere with the recording process.

This is a Chinese English subtitle made by fans. The timeline should match perfectly

I have a 1080p HDTV version, which will be shared later. It should look better.

I have a hard time finding German shows and movies in true 1080p, it's almost always an upconversion. If you have a genuine 1080p version that would be most welcome!

Yes, I'm not quite sure whether the version I downloaded is the real 1080p version, but I still think its image quality is relatively clear. Please enjoy it. If it's not 1080p, it's really a pity. :?

It's not. Looks like someone took a DVD rip and then upconverted it so even though it's in full HD format it's actually lower quality than the disc itself. I have the full DVD and was going to post that, but then I found the 720p HDTV broadcast version which appears to be uncompressed and is a step up in picture quality.

As to why you can't seem to find German programming in 1080p HDTV, one of the three major OTA broadcast networks in the US didn't do 1080p for years, all their stuff was in 720p. I'm guessing that standard must've been adopted by most channels in Germany. Maybe with 4K we'll finally have a single global format.

Thanks a lot for the subs though! The only sets I could find were out of sync and so badly translated I wasn't about to post them.

Sorry, I just can not believe that for anything. Different countries can not even agree on what side of the road to drive on, even when they share a language or other cultural traits. It confounds me that driving over certain European borders means switching sides between right and left.

As for technology, I believe that right now Japan is working on expanding its 8k broadcasts.

Thank you deadman and kissonline for the movie and the subtitles!

It's really media companies, not governments, who establish the standards. 4K blu-ray finally dropped the region coding system. As more and more movies and programming migrates onto streaming platforms for foreign audiences they're actually coming to see the benefit of global releases instead of artificially trying to enforce the pre-internet system of local material for local viewers only.

I believe 4K broadcasting does have a single standard. As for 8K - we don't even have 8K broadcasts in the US. I saw a beautiful 8K OLED TV at Best Buy last week, but there's literally nothing to watch on it higher than 4K. One of those toys for the buyer who has to have the best of the best, always, and money is no object.

A lot depends on the mains frequency. USA and a few others have 60Hz; the rest have 50Hz. To minimize screen flicker the refresh rate is kept at a multiple of the mains frequency - USA 60Hz, 120Hz, etc. Europe 50Hz, 100Hz, etc.
