At first I wondered "Why doesn't she just check Spotify or YouTube or Google the lyrics?" Then I did some reading about the movie and saw that it was set in 1999. Ah, back when kids actually knew what a mixtape was! Now it all makes sense.

I checked out the movie soundtrack listed at IMDB and was very pleased to see that I did not actually know several of the artists and songs. Good, I can accept them being called "obscure", at least for me.

Total spoilers for all the songs: https://www.newsweek.com/netflix-movie- ... gs-1655751
Don't read it if you prefer musical surprises!

Thank you ghost! It looks like I'll enjoy this.

"More Than This" by Roxy Music seems to be the only song I instantly know from this list, because I've got the Roxy Music album where this song is from. Probably I'd recognize several of the other songs, but I couldn't guess the artist. On the other hand, I know many of the artists by name, but I don't know any of their songs by heart. I believe most are well-known hits of the time, though, not some obscure indie stuff like Big Poo Generator.

Yeah, I did a much better job recognizing a few of the artists rather than the specific songs, although I might have heard them. The only songs I specifically knew were ones on the general movie soundtrack but NOT on the mixtape!

Thanks for the ReL and the recommendation, ghost. Seems to be getting some good attention. I still have my old mixtapes, though they aren't mixtapes of the classic style. They are mostly recordings of radio programs that played then uncommon music. I used to cherish those tapes, along with all the blips and rushes of static and unskipped adverts. Good old days, before music sharing online was as feasible.

And thanks mimzy for the further recommendation, even if unintentional, for the obscure indie stuff. Will def be checking out BPG asap1
