Going by the industry standard of filming one year before release, she was 17, which means she was most likely portraying a 16 year old, since I've never heard of an actor or actress portraying someone OLDER character (it would be interesting indeed to have a 12 year old play an 18 year old... or something... whatevs... ) .... so this still makes her OT, and even (N)OT, at that. Eva Ionesco was born May 21, 1965. So if she was "barely 16", were they filming in 1981 for this 1983 movie? Just asking. If it was some haphazard production by an eccentric arty director, that could certainly be the case.

Which industry and in which decade? French, Hollywood, world? And it certainly has changed over time, with big studios constantly looking for faster shooting times, and post-production time dependent on things like possible need for FX. With small productions, often post production time was extended while they scrounged for someone who would pay for film prints and distribution. So, I know that there are people who can say what was typical in 1980s France low budget productions, and they are either industry insiders from that era or total film geeks. What the heck are you talking about? In 1970's Little Big Man, Dustin Hoffman played a character who was 121 years old and he was in his 30s. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino played older versions of their characters in the Godfather movies. In The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Brad Pitt's character aged BACKWARDS. All of this involved extensive makeup. King Lear on stage and film is always played by an actor much younger than the character, because it involves alot of action and dialog to memorize. An actor of the right age would not have the energy. College-student Hamlet is always played by a fortyish man. Glenn Close is about 9 years older than Mel Gibson, but played his mother in Hamlet. She was about 4 years older than Robin Williams, but played his mother in The World According to Garp. Robin Williams was about 30 but played his character as a college student. Dustin Hoffman at about the same age played a college graduate in The Graduate, and no his character did not have a PhD. Jennifer Lawrence has played older characters in a number of movies. Scarlett Johansson was 18 in "Lost in Translation" and playing a college graduate.
