(Calmly: )
Thanks Devil❧, for posting and bringing this movie to our attention. In fact, [I don't think I've mentioned this before], your participation in our forum discussions and contributions to FLM are greatly appreciated. :bigups Members that are actively involved are what's keeping FLM [or any type website, obviously] thriving.

(Still calmly...)
Um, by any chance have you watched this movie yet? Hmm? :think Perchance enough to offer up any warnings? :think Hmm? :think

(Let loose: )
Well; I'm not going to say what I REALLY think because I'm held to a higher standard from where my thoughts are ping-ponging around right now.. I will say this: The blame for the frustration I feel falls squarely on imdb.com's shoulders, and has nothing to do with Devil❧.

The main actress Miona Ilov, who portrays Milica is sweet looking, but sad and solemn throughout the entire film. You just wanna pull her into a big bear hug and hold her and hold her and hold her and hold her and hold her and hold her and hold her and hold her...

Checking imdb it lists this movie as 'Drama \ Horror'. I LOVE horror films; and as long as I'm not eating during the gory parts I'm-a happy guy.

'Drama'; I gotta be in a certain mood to watch those. An 'OK-I'm-ready-to-see-just-how-shyty-life-can-get' kinda mood.

I sit down to this movie thinking 'Oh yeah; this movie is called 'Darkling'. I'm ready for a Serbian horror film'. I mean; hey! I've seen 'A Serbian Film'. Twice. (Sorry, but I kinda liked it.. It 'moved' me... )

THIS MOVIE IS NOT A HORROR FILM! :wall :wall :wall :wall :wall

I'm going to have to 'Spoiler' almost everything else.. :wall (Seriously, if you have ANY intention of watching this and hate 'Spoilers': DO NOT READ THE 'SPOILER' SECTION!!! )
Spoiler:

..The only 'horror' in it, is the horror of the absolute, unmitigated and unrelenting hopelessness of anything good happening in this child's life.

Milica's day to day life living somewhat secluded in the woods with her mother and grandfather goes from bad to circling the pits of hell.. Her dad and her mom's brother have both disappeared while searching for work.

There's a war going on, but the only parts we see are the occupying, allied troops that pick up young Milica to take her to school each day. All the children have been given a whistle and instructed to blow them when they're in trouble and the soldier's will come to help.

At first the soldier's are Italian, but they move out when the Americans show up as reinforcements. Regardless, Milica's grandfather feels they are all useless as no one is helping to find his son and son-in-law.

As the film progresses, a newborn calf dies. Then they loose all their chickens. All the while everyone else in whatever community is left are either disappearing or moving away.

None of this is presented as 'horror'; it's just the day to day life of a family caught-up in a horrible situation. It just gets bleaker and bleaker...

Remember the whistles? :wall

The scene that will probably stick with me and haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life [HEY!! YOU'RE READING THE FRIGGIN' 'SPOILERS'!!] is poor, terrified little Milica trapped in a burning house running from room to room as each ceiling falls in, desperately blowing that useless, useless, friggin' USELESS! little whistle.........as...if...her...life...depended...on...it....

....I REALLY could have used some warning coming into this movie..
Anyway....

That's my thoughts on 'Darkling'.. :| (Some heavy stuff, y'all..) ((Consider that a 'warning'.)) :eusa_whistle

kev.
