When it is learned that an eleven year old girl (Valentina Scalici) is being forced into prostitution by her mother, the lass and her nine year old brother (Giuseppe Ieracitano) are taken from their home and put into the custody of an officer who is to take them to an orphanage.
Complication after complication turn what should have been a short trip into a journey of several days. Along the way, a bond forms between the officer and children, but can any of them successfully escape our heroine's "blemished" past? A detailed and believable portrait full of realistic characters and situations. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival; highly recommended!
