It appears they did perform grain removal on the brighter scenes, because it's easy to do without degrading the picture. On the other hand grain removal in dark scenes leads to a lot of blocking and other artifacts - especially in the darkest parts of the image. It looks like crap. Better to leave the grain. Which is exactly what the bluray releaser did.

Deadman, I would like to put you in charge of teaching the professionals who master blu-rays, because clearly some of them still do not understand this! They just blanket a thick coat of DNR over everything rather than using it judiciously. Some viewers get so frustrated with this that they think they want NO DNR ever, but I suspect they would not like those results either.deadman wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:53 am It appears they did perform grain removal on the brighter scenes, because it's easy to do without degrading the picture. It has improved tremendously since the early days of Blu because there are some disc Masterers who consistently get it right.

I shrinked deadman's file to a smaller file size and added a German and French audio track. So now you can switch between three audio languages:

David Hamilton's films have dialog??
This may be the first time I had a movie in a dubbed version and did not even realize it.
Thank you ghost!

Yup. I really heard them talking.David Hamilton's films have dialog??
But seriously, sure there are dialogs in this movie. Even if you probably only watched the other scenes.
Re: [REL] Laura, les ombres de l'été (1979)
I remember one Hamilton movie (not sure which) where I went nuts looking for subtitles until I realized it did not have any dialog, it was just dreamy wandering gauzy girls. I guess after that I conflated all his movies into one.

Really cool to see a bluray of this thanks deadman!

That would be Un été à Saint-Tropez (1984)

Don't remember if there's any dialogue at all - if there is, it's not much. Hamilton basically took the shower room scene from Laura and expanded it into a full length feature. Be nice to get a bluray of that movie too. And maybe we will. Both Laura, les ombres de l'été (1979) and Tendres cousines (1980) were released in Japan so maybe the same company will release that movie. And Premiers désirs (1983) as well. Yep. I believe that covers Mr. Hamilton's entire ... uh, body of work. Movie-wise.

You forgot to mention Bilitis!

He also was codirector on the documentary "Hildegard Knef and Her Songs", although that one would be off-topic for FLM.
