Cinema movies are in 24 frames per seconds. PAL encoded movies are in 25 frames per seconds. To make things simple, the 24 fps are just changed into 25 fps, with only a correction on the sound.
So PAL encoded movies are a bit shorter than the cinema releases. This does not happen on the NTSC 30 fps DVD, because they have additional images to keep the original duration.

And this is why the timing of the subtitles for NTSC versions must be adjusted for the PAL versions.

But on Water Lilies, the 85 minutes cinema release should turn into a 82 minutes PAL release, so 2 minutes seem to actually miss on the 80 min DVD.

The american edition of the DVD seems to have the original 85 minutes lenght, according to Amazon.

I found a HD clip of some interesting scenes of this movie. Although it´s not 1080p, it´s really enjoyable to watch them like this.
The whole movie in HD I´m not able to find (and it´s a shame, because the chubby girl is missing in this selection, for example).

Finally I know the source of the HDTV rip! It was aired under a name "Unter Wasser, über Kopf" on German Arte (quite a long time ago).

Thanks for your effort, Warg, but none of these torrents is HD. Full movie in HD simply doesn't exist - it was aired on ARTE a long time ago, so we have to make it up with mere excerptions...
