Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
Hmmm. Does anyone suppose the 14gb version of this movie is worth downloading? I wouldn't mind the size for a movie like this.
But the 720p version ghost uploaded on page 3 looks really good to me. Is the blueray rip much better than ghost's file? And has anyone tried the 1080i file that deadman shared on page 4?

1) It is annoying to have video glitches on such a large file. But it is still well-seeded. I have uploaded 55GB myself. [EDIT: I have now deleted this glitchy file.]pillowbaker wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:48 amI wouldn't mind the size for a movie like this.

2) I did not have any issues with ghost's 720p file. Whether someone needs a 1080p upgrade depends on how often they expect to watch the movie.
3) It seems to be impossible to resync subtitles to deadman's file because of various issues. (Including remnants of commercial interruptions.) It also has a watermark. If you don't mind watermarks and do understand French, then it is a good possibility.
4) There is also the watermark-free file that you posted here. At the time I thought that it would have the same problems with resyncing subtitles that deadman's file has, but I no longer remember if I actually TRIED to do it. Maybe now with my glitch issue I OUGHT to do so! [EDIT: my subtitle resync for this one seems to be a success, but I want to check out the results in full first. EDIT EDIT: The subtitles are well-synced but I am still making small corrections before posting them.]
Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
??? On ULOZ, really? I can not find this 14Gb file at Uloz now and did not see it there before; I only saw it in torrents. However, I do vaguely remember seeing two identical 14Gb torrents on one of the torrent sites I search, so your point still stands.DreamScape wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 3:55 amIn fact, if you look at the media info of the MOMOHD video you can see PTer in the movie title. Someone just renamed the 14 GB file to steal credit and uploaded it to Uloz.
Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
My 8GB Rip doesnt seem to have glitches (or I am becoming blind lol)
Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
Share it! Share it! Share it!
(I logged in and got the torrent file and loaded it into my torrent client, but I am unclear if I will ever succeed in downloading anything unless I sign up for a private tracker [?] or some such ygg restriction. I think my one previous attempt at a ygg file was also a failure.)
I finished watching in its entirety the ulozto 1080 TV rip that pillowbaker discovered and posted about here, back in May 2022:
viewtopic.php?p=93377#p93377
The ulozto rip is here:
https://ulozto.net/file/ORwpqenCqhNo/le ... 987-tv-mkv
So far it is my favorite version of the movie.
CONS: After the end-of-movie freeze frame, the end credits speed by and cut off abruptly.
PROS: (1) No glitches or digital breakup; (2) No commercial breaks; (3) No watermarks; (4) I got the English subtitles synced to it!!
I really don't trust my blind eyes entirely, so it certainly COULD have jittery movement, DNR, haloing, edge enhancement ... but if I don't see it myself, it won't bother me.
I am working further on corrections to the subtitle file before posting it.
I would have been perfectly happy to go the rest of my life with ghost's 720p version from 2016 (!) but the possibility of 1080 Blu-ray rips made me greedy!
If the ygg Blu-rip turns out to be problem-free, then please share it goku! So far it is sitting at a big fat nothing in my torrent client.

Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
Whaaa?! Well I guess I did. I completely forgot I posted that, and I don't remember if I ever downloaded the file either!
The file I posted was likely created well before the announced bluray, so do you suppose it's likely an upscale? I don't know if my eyes would be able to notice much, but in terms of upscale quality comparisons, ghost usually comes out on top. Do you notice any difference between the uloz 1080p and ghost's 720? (I am downloading the uloz file momentarily)
edit: yeah I already downloaded it and forgot about that too. I'll compare the video quality, but I am interested in what anyone else says too. the uloz file runs at 1:41, around 5 minutes shorter, but that is like a 25 fps thing.
Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
Your FLM post was in May and the blu-ray was in November, so it was quite possibly less than one year between the two versions, since we don't get to see file posting dates on ulozto. It may have been as little as 6 months. It is from "TV" but has no watermark or any sign of commercial interruptions, so it must be from a premium channel. HD remasters are created before a restored blu-ray release, and sometimes they test interest in a title with streaming or broadcast before doing a physical release. Disk pressing is a real investment, with physical inventory that takes up space if it does not sell. In this case the boutique label Tamasa Distribution licensed a release from the 4k master. How long that 4k master was available and whether it was previously used in streaming/broadcast, I have no way of knowing! My eyes can't look at something and say "Oh, that's an upscale." I did not compare this directly to other releases, and right now that would require juggling two different hard drives!! Since I don't trust my eye judgement entirely anyway, that hardly seems worth the effort. I simply take things at face value. "This says it is 720p, that says it it is 1080p. I watch it and see nothing wrong. End of story."
Yes, the runtime difference is due to 25fps of the TVrip vs. 24fps of the blu-ray. Since I successfully got the subtitles resynced I can be certain there is no missing footage! (Other than the abbreviated end credits.) If I decide I do not have the energy to do even more corrections in short order, I will simply post the mostly-corrected subtitles as is. The original version did not have any major issues anyway; I just wanted to make it EVEN BETTER, since I keep watching the movie over and over!

Re: [REL] Le grand chemin (1987)
I might be crazy but sometimes I think that with real life films/shows I can kind of sense if it’s an upscale. Although it’s probably also subconscious..when I know for a fact it’s an upscale. My point is sometimes upscale can have artifacts or errors where topaz didn’t get it right. This is why Topaz is the best for regular 2D cartoons. Much easier to guess and add additional pixels.

That 5gb tv rip seems to be different than Kesni's 3,29 gb (tried English subs)
