Mininova is going to filter "illegal content".

See:

Since 90% of their content is file sharing of copyright material,
this could be the end of Mininova as we know it. :think

It will certainly signal dramatic changes for torrenting. 80 % of Swedens privat torrentsites have also closed down after the TPB-verdict and they received a cease-and-decist letter from AntiPiratbyrÄn...

This was always going to happen & will probably go several stages further. There has been a rapid recent increase in filesharing activity, particularly of newly released material that is most definitely copyright protected & arguably steps need to be taken to curtail this for the future well being of the industries concerned. With the rapid download speeds of today coupled with the simplicity of obtaining via torrent & direct download it's hardly surprising these will be targeted first.
How will this affect us here?..........probably not a great deal. We are collectors of specific material, much of which is either in the public domain or of little interest to others than ourselves. Of course, some of our downloads are illegal (and I don't mean the content) but we are not simply pirating to save money & deny the industry of revenue.
I would expect to see increased use of Usenet & eMule with massaged filenames & possibly password protected archives becoming the norm.
