They had mopeds back in the 50's ? :?

I rode them as a young boy in the late 70's. There was a dealer down the street from where I lived and a lot of people had them at that time, even my Grand mother rode one. I do recall playing games of chicken with the neighbor kids and some were girls. Loads of fun. :cool Then for some reason in the 80's they were considered 'not cool' and disappeared. :(

They were called scooters or motor scooters back then, not mopeds. They're not 'cool' because if you see an adult on a moped now, you know they lost their drivers license after getting arrested for drunk driving. Doesn't stop them from driving the mopeds drunk, and they're always on busy two lane highways where their max speed of 30 mph jams everything up because you can't pass them. :x
