UseNext
I'm thinking of getting back on UseNet. Anyone know anything about UseNext http://www.usenext.com/ ? Their prices aren't too bad and they have good retention and speed.
30 GB for 7.95 € per month, 360 GB for 95.35 € per year at full DSL speed
600 GB per month free at 2 Kbits/second speed
60,000+ newsgroups, 1538 days retention
Anyone using something better? It's been a long time since there's been any discussions about UseNet - I haven't been on it since Verizon dropped all binary groups except for once or twice when I found a free server.

Interesting. Looks like the better plan. Thanks starfish.
Re: UseNext
I've also been using astraweb for several years now having tried Giganews & feeling it was too expensive. I go for the fixed download amount & bought 1000gb a few weeks ago for $50 which could well outlast me & I consider somewhat of a bargain!
To be fair, when I'm not in a hurry I don't always use astraweb as my ISP, despite being useless actually provide a little known & unpublicised newsserver that carries most of the groups & has pretty good completion & retention although is woefully slow.
You'll find usenet a somewhat different place with some groups long gone & the demise of some of the nzb indexing sites making it more hard work. Still, it's good fun trawling through the groups, especially when trying to decipher some of the cryptic names given to releases.
I like Grabit as a newsreader, mainly because it's free but also for it's ability to stitch together split files & incomplete/recovery files without having to bother using QuickPar manually. I've also used XanaNews which is OK, particularly for entire group searches.
If you decide to go for astraweb do a bit of research before signing up. You'll likely dig-up offers/promotion codes from themselves or their resellers that will further improve on the advertised prices.

Thanks. Looked at Grabit a little. It's OK but I'm going to look around a little first - it's got its quirks.

Re: UseNext
i tried loads of clients, and settled on what is by far the most feature rich one... NZBpro,
http://usenetreviewz.com/best-usenet-clients/
http://www.usenetadvantage.net/top-5-be ... eaders.php
autorar is one option, you can repair incomplete files, join parts and unrar automatically to any directory you like ,it kicks ass,it's got one big advantage over the others....it's own forum,
http://forums.newsbin.com/index.php?sid ... e5f7d814b5
it's helped me out many times, and they've been around for years, most of the tweaks and upgrades over the years have been suggested by the members.

Re: UseNext
Some people use different NSPs for posting and downloading, because those that are good for downloading, are usually not safe/reliable for posting. Anyway, if anybody finds anything interesting in Usenet, it is possible to attach nzb (preferably compressed) here

Re: UseNext
Just to clarify, NZBpro is NewsBin Pro. I used Agent way back when but I've lost my registration info for it (it's been 3 or 4 years and several reimages since then ) so it's certainly time to 'upgrade', especially since I hated having to use QuickPar manually for every binary. I also like NewsBin's speed limiter. Agent had that and it helped keep the peace at my house.starfish21 wrote:i tried loads of clients, and settled on what is by far the most feature rich one... NZBpro,
Thanks for the info.
